Outside of Eden

navigating womanhood in the modern world

Welcome

Hi, my name is Mindy. Welcome to Outside of Eden.

I began this blog shortly after the birth of my daughter. When I found out that my first child was going to be a girl, I was overwhelmed and nervous.

I knew how difficult my experience navigating the modern world as a woman had been. From a young age, I received mixed messages from my family, educators, and community members about what my life should and would look like as an adult. Career and money was almost always the focus. People saw my talents and encouraged me to pursue a high level career, with marriage and family being an afterthought, a sideshow, or a nice little addition to my true life’s purpose. I was never told that family would be so important to me, and this realization rocked my world.

Reorganizing my life to accommodate the newfound importance of caring for my husband, children, and home was a difficult task. If I were to hit the restart button, I would have made much different choices as a young woman. I would have structured my life to be more focused on the family from the beginning. While I am grateful that I was able to pivot when I did, it was a painful transition that could have been avoided.

Outside of Eden is a space where I intend to wrestle with the difficult reality of being a young woman in this modern world. I do not have all the answers, in fact I have very few. I hope that by shedding light on these topics, I can help you to think critically about what you have been told about being a woman. I hope that I can equip you with knowledge and resources so you can make informed decisions. Whether you are in your teens, 20s, 30s, 40s or beyond, I hope that you gain even an ounce of wisdom from this blog. I pray that we can all learn and grow together as sisters in Christ.
